Why You Self-Sabotage Your Weight Loss

How many times have you tried to lose weight and you found yourself undermining your own efforts? Or perhaps you’ve lost the weight and then you find yourself sliding back into the behaviors that caused you to gain the weight in the first place? This is known as self-sabotage.

We can sabotage ourselves in all parts of our lives, not just when it comes to weight. We can sabotage ourselves when it comes to relationships, money and even our work and success. It is all interrelated because “how you do anything is how you do everything.”

Why do we do this? Why do we want something that we believe would make us happy and fulfilled and then we take actions that prevent us from getting what we want?

Self-sabotage comes from your belief system, also known as limiting beliefs.

The self-sabotage cycle looks like this:

>>> BELIEFS dictate our THOUGHTS >>> THOUGHTS dictate our FEELINGS >>>FEELINGS dictate our ACTIONS >>> ACTIONS lead to our RESULTS.

Some examples of limiting beliefs are:

  • I’m not good enough
  • There is never enough time
  • I don’t have the money
  • I’m not smart enough or pretty enough
  • I’m just not lucky
  • I’ll just fail anyway so what’s the point
  • I will never lose weight so why try
  • I will never meet someone

Think about the self-sabotage cycle. If you are someone that struggles with weight due to emotional eating, what happens right before you head for the kitchen?

Does that voice in your head give you the same message about why it’s ok to eat when eating has nothing to do with being hungry?

Messages such as “I don’t care” or “I’ll worry about it tomorrow.” I know from working with my clients that these are some of the predominant messages in their head when they turn to food to fix their feelings.

If you have been on half a dozen diets or more and you still struggle with weight, have you addressed what dictates your habits, behaviors and MINDSET around food and eating?

If you’ve only addressed changing your food, chances are you have spent a lot of time yo-yo dieting.

In order to lose weight and keep it off you have to get clear on your belief system and change your mindset around these beliefs. This is how to change your thoughts and change your actions which will give you the results you desire.

Three years ago I hired a business coach that talked a lot about mindset. She showed me that my own thinking caused my own resistance that kept me stuck where I was.

She taught me that most of my beliefs that keep me stuck “ARE NOT THE TRUTH.”

When I saw how the power of changing my mindset helped me get out of my own way, my business grew. I think completely differently now than I did three years ago.

I just hired a coach that takes a deeper dive into mindset change so I can continue to grow my business and flourish in other parts of my life.

What would your life look like if you had a coach that would help you change your mindset and overcome your limiting beliefs? Schedule your free call with me now.
