The Importance of Sleep in Weight Management

The Real Reason Women Over 40 Struggle to Lose Weight (That No One Talks About)

You’ve followed the plans. You’ve counted, measured, skipped dessert, and told yourself, “This time, I’m determined to do it.”

And yet… the weight won’t come off. Or it does—but it doesn’t stay off for long.

It’s frustrating, confusing, and honestly, exhausting.

But let me tell you something you need to hear:

It’s not your fault. And it’s not just about the food.

As a weight-loss accountability coach for women over 40, I’ve seen this pattern over and over again. And I’ve lived it, too.

The truth is, the real struggle isn’t with food. It’s with the weight you can’t see—the emotional weight and the old stories you’ve carried for years.

Let’s talk about that.

Emotional Eating Is Not About Willpower

Most women I work with know exactly what they should eat. The problem isn’t a lack of information. It’s what happens when life gets hard.

Stress, boredom, loneliness, overwhelm… these feelings all have one thing in common: they send us to the kitchen when we’re triggered.

If you find yourself eating when you’re not hungry or reaching for food to soothe emotions, you’re not screwing up. You are just repeating an old pattern.

This pattern is called emotional eating, and it has nothing to do with willpower. It’s about seeking relief, comfort, and coping.

Diets don’t teach you how to handle any of that. That’s why they stop working the moment life gets messy (which, let’s be honest, is often).

The Dieter’s Mindset Keeps You Stuck

Have you ever had one “bad” day and then told yourself you may as well keep on eating and start again Monday?

That’s the dieter’s mindset: all-or-nothing thinking that tells you if it’s not perfect, what’s the point?.

It’s why you end up starting over again every Monday. It’s why you feel like you’re either being “good” or totally out of control.

This mindset is exhausting—and it’s not helping you make real progress.

In fact, it’s quietly sabotaging you.

True, lasting weight loss isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about learning how to keep going even when things aren’t perfect. That’s where the real transformation begins.

Your Inner Critic Isn’t Helping

There’s another weight you’re carrying, too—the voice in your head that says:

“You blew it again.”
“You’ll never stick with this.”
“You’re too old to change.”

That voice is your inner critic. .

It makes you second-guess yourself, it gets you to feel ashamed of any slip-ups, and makes you believe that maybe this is just how you are.

But it’s not. That voice is lying to you.

And when you learn how to challenge it—without guilt, without shame—you open the door to a different way forward.

The Shift That Changes Everything

Before your body can release the weight, your mind and heart have to feel safe enough to let go.

That means:

  • Letting go of guilt around food
  • Releasing shame about past “failures”
  • Learning how to meet your emotional needs without relying on food

This is what I help women do every day in my coaching practice.

And it’s exactly what I’ll walk you through in my free masterclass:
